Wishing to skip busy Kuta we decided to look a little south for a more relaxed start to our Bali adventure. A quick look online and the beach side neighborhood of Jimbaran jumped to the top of our list. Located on Bali’s quiet southern coast, the area is home to both fishermen and Balinese families giving a chance to interact with the local villagers. The very pretty beach was another big tick!
THE OPEN HOUSE
WHERE: Jalan Pemelisan Agung, nº 25
HOW: The Open House was first stop on our Indonesian adventure, we took a taxi from the international airport. It took about 15 minutes and cost around Rp70,000 (US$7). The Open House has a airport shuttle service as well.
COST: From Rp2000000/US$170/€150
FOR THE KIDS: Lots of swimming at the beach and the pool!
NEARBY: Check out the traditional fish market located at the northern end of the beach. It’s stinky but fun to see all the different types of fish! The best time to visit between 6-9am and you can get your purchases grilled at a grilling area in the market for a fee. Be sure to dine on the beach at sunset at one of the seafood restaurants. The Jimberan market takes place (early) every morning and is a great place to get a tropical fruit fix! It’s a five minute walk at the end of the same road as the Open House.
Bali is hot and, even with the beach close by, we wanted to stay somewhere with a pool – there’s is nothing like a cool swim after a day of exploring, especially with children in tow! We loved the look of the boutique Open House and so were thrilled when they were keen to work with us!
Situated a short walk from Jimbaran Beach, The Open House has lovely poolside rooms, each with their own patio. The rooms are spacious, scrupulously clean with quality linen and the staff kindly provided an extra comfortable bed for our daughter.
Our room opened onto the pretty patio, only a few steps from the large pool. The kids will love the pool and you’ll love lounging in the pool side recliners with a fresh fruit juice from the kitchen. Or relaxing on over sized cushions in the open air library.
At one end of the road is a lovely beach with lots of fishing activity. We spent a lot of time here watching the fishermen tend to their nets or work on their jukung, the colourful traditional boats that line the shore. The white sand beach is calm, making it a good choice for families with little children.
It was a five minute walk up the road to the daily morning market with lots of fruit and vegetables on offer – can you convince the kids to try durian, the stinkiest fruit in the world?
The Open House can rent you motorbikes, host a cookery classes, organise a guide for a trip to the local temples or point you to the best surf spots.
And if all you are after is a relaxing time by the pool, The Open House is a lovely boutique hideaway. It was one of our daughter’s favorite places to stay in all our travels to date and we all wish to go back – soon!
We were the guests of The Open House in Jimbaran but all views are our own. We had a lovely stay!
