40km from busy Jodhpur, Chandelao is a small and peaceful Rajasthani village and the perfect place to get a feel for local life.
WHERE: Chandelao Village, 40km from Jodhpur, Rajasthan
HOW: We had a driver pick us up from the train station in Jodhpur and drive us to Chandelao – it took about an hour.
FOR THE KIDS: Lots and lots of friendly kids to play with and a laid back village atmosphere.
DETAILS: We stayed for two nights in Chandelao at the Chandelao Garh.
A crafts centre, where local women make and sell their handicrafts, was also developed. The workshop is adjacent to the Garh and is a lovely place to visit (and shop!) and watch the women sew, embroider and bead using traditional techniques.
Chandelao gives a glimpse into everyday Rajasthani village life. The villagers are friendly and welcoming especially the children who LOVE to have their photos taken (you will be asked a lot!). Chandelao is a good spot to base yourself whilst exploring the local area – we took a trip to the nearby market town of Pipar, and went for a 4×4 safari to check out the local wildlife and meet some of the local Bishnoi people.
